COLLAGEN STIMULATION
Biostimulators
Stimulate your body's own collagen with Sculptra and Radiesse for gradual, natural rejuvenation that improves over time and lasts up to two years.
What Are Biostimulators?
Biostimulators represent a fundamentally different approach to facial rejuvenation. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that add volume directly, biostimulators work by activating your body's own collagen production. The result is a gradual, progressive improvement in skin quality, volume, and firmness that looks entirely natural — because it is your own collagen. At Thrive Wellness + Aesthetics, Dr. Miles uses two FDA-approved biostimulators — Sculptra and Radiesse — each with unique properties that make them suited to different treatment goals. Her deep understanding of the aging process and collagen biology allows her to design treatment plans that restore structure and vitality from within.

How Biostimulators Work
Both Sculptra and Radiesse work by triggering a controlled inflammatory response beneath the skin. This response activates fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing collagen. Over the weeks and months following treatment, new collagen gradually forms around the treatment area, restoring volume, improving skin texture, and rebuilding the structural scaffolding of the face.
The key difference from traditional fillers is timing: while fillers provide instant volume, biostimulators provide a gradual transformation. Many patients prefer this approach precisely because the change is so natural — people notice you look better, but they can't pinpoint exactly what changed.
Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid)
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) biostimulator that has been FDA-approved for over 20 years. It works by stimulating deep collagen production and is ideal for patients experiencing overall facial volume loss, skin laxity, or a hollowed appearance. Sculptra is typically administered in a series of 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, with results developing gradually over 2-3 months and lasting up to 2 years.
Radiesse (Calcium Hydroxylapatite)
Radiesse offers the best of both worlds: immediate volume correction plus long-term collagen stimulation. Its calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres provide an instant structural lift while simultaneously triggering new collagen growth. Radiesse is particularly effective for restoring definition to the cheeks, jawline, and hands, and can also be diluted (hyperdilute Radiesse) for broader skin quality improvement.
Benefits of Biostimulators
Gradual, Natural Results — Changes develop progressively, so no one knows you had a treatment — they just know you look amazing
Long-Lasting — Results can last up to 2 years, significantly longer than most traditional fillers
Collagen Rebuilding — You're not just adding a product — you're restoring your body's own structural protein
Improved Skin Quality — Beyond volume, biostimulators improve skin texture, thickness, and overall radiance
Versatile Treatment — Can be used for the face, neck, decolletage, and hands
Preventive Anti-Aging — Stimulating collagen now helps slow future volume loss and skin aging
Treatment Areas
Biostimulators are particularly effective for:
Cheeks & Mid-Face — Restore the youthful volume and lift that defines the mid-face
Temples — Fill hollowed temples that can make the face appear gaunt or aged
Jawline & Lower Face — Rebuild structure and definition along the jaw
Neck & Decolletage — Improve skin quality and crepiness in these commonly overlooked areas
Hands — Restore volume and reduce the appearance of veins and tendons
Full-Face Rejuvenation — Hyperdilute techniques can improve overall skin quality across the entire face
What to Expect
Your biostimulator treatment at Thrive begins with a thorough consultation where Dr. Miles evaluates your facial structure, collagen status, and aesthetic goals. Here's what your treatment journey looks like:
A topical numbing cream is applied to ensure comfort throughout the procedure
Dr. Miles uses a combination of injection techniques tailored to each treatment area
Treatments typically take 30-45 minutes
You may notice some initial volume from the product itself and the accompanying solution — this will settle over a few days
Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising may occur and typically resolves within 3-5 days
For Sculptra, you'll massage the treated areas as instructed (the "5-5-5 rule": 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days)
Collagen development begins within weeks and continues for 2-3 months following each session
Most patients see optimal results after 2-3 treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart
