LASER TREATMENT
Laser Hair Removal
Advanced laser technology for long-lasting hair reduction on virtually any body area — safe, precise, and effective, with physician oversight at every step.
What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses concentrated light energy to target and damage hair follicles, significantly reducing future hair growth. The laser emits a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft, converting to heat and disabling the follicle's ability to produce new hair.
At Thrive, laser hair removal is performed using advanced, FDA-cleared technology that can be precisely calibrated for different skin types, hair colors, and treatment areas. Dr. Miles personally oversees every treatment to ensure safety, comfort, and optimal results.

How It Works
The laser targets melanin in the hair follicle. When the laser pulse is delivered, the light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft, heating and damaging the follicle. This disrupts the follicle's growth cycle, preventing or significantly reducing future hair production.
Because hair grows in cycles (anagen, catagen, and telogen), the laser is most effective during the active growth phase (anagen) when the hair is still connected to the follicle. This is why multiple sessions are needed — to catch all hair follicles during their active growth phase.
Treatment Areas
Laser hair removal can be performed on virtually any area of the body. Our most popular treatment areas include:
Face — Upper lip, chin, jawline, sideburns, cheeks
Underarms — One of our most-requested areas for long-lasting smoothness
Bikini — Standard bikini line, extended bikini, or full Brazilian
Legs — Full legs, lower legs, or upper thighs
Back — Full back or upper/lower sections
Chest — Full chest or targeted areas
Arms — Full arms, forearms, or upper arms
Abdomen — Full abdomen or happy trail area
Ideal Candidates
Laser hair removal works best on individuals with dark hair and lighter skin, as the contrast allows the laser to more easily target the melanin in the hair follicle. However, advances in laser technology have made the treatment effective and safe for a wider range of skin tones and hair colors than ever before.
During your consultation, Dr. Miles will evaluate your skin type, hair color, and medical history to determine if laser hair removal is right for you and which laser settings will deliver the best results for your specific combination.
Laser hair removal may not be ideal for:
Very light blonde, white, gray, or red hair (insufficient melanin for the laser to target)
Active tanning or recent sun exposure in the treatment area
Certain medications that increase photosensitivity
Pregnancy
What to Expect
Before your first session, you'll be asked to shave the treatment area 24-48 hours prior. Avoid waxing, plucking, or threading for 4-6 weeks before treatment, as the laser needs the hair root present in the follicle.
During treatment, you may feel a snapping or warming sensation as the laser pulses. Most patients describe it as tolerable, similar to a rubber band snap against the skin. A built-in cooling system helps minimize discomfort. Treatment times vary from 15 minutes for small areas (like the upper lip) to 60 minutes for larger areas (like full legs).
After treatment, the area may appear slightly pink or feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn. This typically resolves within a few hours. You can return to normal activities immediately, though you should avoid sun exposure and heat (saunas, hot tubs) for 24-48 hours.
